Sorry to be late. UK time zone!

Thanks for your reply. No, not an iCloud account. This will be my first time doing this -- Apple Store guy did it zip-zip the first time. Checking to make sure I've got the steps:
I just realized how easy it is to check/edit/delete emails throughout the day without going to the desktop!
Thanks again.
If you attempted to change the password in situ then the only remedy is to delete and add the account back.
You simply cannot update email passwords on iphone or Mac email clients without messing up.
(NB if this is an iCloud mail account the process is different)
No worries about the time zone. Stuck at home with time on my hands anyhow.
Have not attempted deleting & adding the email account yet. Got up today to discover that all of my contacts and all of my calendar appointments are gone. Unsure if these issues are connected to the email issue, or indications that something else is wrong. Should I proceed with deleting and adding the email account?
OK. I deleted the email account. I added the email account, using the steps of the article you provided above - which I thought was very clear and helpful. I checked to make sure I had correct IMAP, host name etc. However, when I attempt to get mail, I get error message as follows: "Cannot get mail. No password provided. Go to Mail Account Settings & enter a password." I have tried this several times, using my existing email password which works on the desktop (not my Apple password)
Arrgh. What am I missing? Thanks
I think I would contact their support people or forum. You have done everything correctly. If the password was wrong it would not have allowed you to add the account.
Once added successfully if it then subsequently dislikes the password then that is abnormal behaviour.
Before seeing your last post, I visited the ATT support site & learned that multiple customers are having the same issue. I have not resolved my problem yet, but I believe you have set me on the right track. Thank you. I will follow up with their customer support line.
If the contacts and calendar are hosted by the same email account then loss of authorisation will lose them too.
Go ahead with the procedure!
If the contacts don’t come back you can come back here.
You didn’t mention deleting the account and adding it back in Settings, Mail, Accounts
No, I did not delete the account and add it back in settings.. It is the one email account that I have had on the phone since I set it up. Is that what I should try next?
By the way use your current password. The one that works on the desktop.
Don’t try to change it there.
Is it AOL?
No, it is att.net
It is an account I have had on the iPhone since I bought the phone.
Also see this exact same problem -
Good luck. AoL customers are going through a similar experience!
