Iphone for elderly disable strong man

I purchased an iphone 8 for my FIL because I thought I could make it super simple. He is very rough with things and often doesn't realize it, but breaks stuff. I put it in an otterbox, enlarged the text, watched a ton of videos on how to set it up for a disabled/elderly person, and still there is an issue. I went in to teach him how to make a phone call. Each time he pushes on the phone icon or any other app it goes to the remove app screen. It doesn't seem like he is pressing that hard or long to me, but he is 80 and a bit slower with the mechanics. Is there a way to disable the iphone from allowing apps to be deleted or prevent that menu from popping up with pressure?
