Iphone shutter sound

context: it is illegal (and to my knowledge, impossible) to mute the shutter sound on phones with cameras that are sold in Japan. I have left japan and moved to the United States (where it’s okay to mute the shutter).

i thought leaving the country, removing my SIM, resetting everything, etc. would be enough to have my phone function as any other American phone, but this has not been the case.

Is there a way to eliminate the shutter sound

iPhone XR, iOS 14

Nope. It doesn't matter where in the world you are. If you purchased a phone which was made for Japan market, the camera shutter sound can never be muted. Ever. That was required by the governments in countries which don't permit the shutter sound to be muted to never be altered.
