Can I make a soundwave video in imovie?

I want to make one of those videos that plays with a still image with the soundwave moving in response to the sound. To play in the finished product. Every time I search for this online it just tells me how to view sound waves while editing, which I already know how to do. I want a visible soundwave on the screen while playing the finished video clip. Is this possible in imovie?

Mac mini, macOS 11.2

Ah. I found where I got the visualizer movie.

Open iTunes. Go to your Music library and start playing a song. Then go to the menu and click on View/Visualizer.

So, if you put your song into iTunes you might be able to make a visualizer that you can screen record or otherwise download for use in iMovie.

Hi, dwighthurst,

What you are describing is called a visualizer, where color effects move on the screen in time to the music. iMovie can't make those. However, you can fake it by downloading and playing a soundless visualizer clip along with your audio. Go to You Tube and type in the search word visualizer. You will get lots of hits that possibly you can download. You might also do a Google search.

Some time ago I searched around and found a really good visualizer video that works well with most songs. (Can't recall where I got it.) It is not interactive but plays while the song is playing. Here's a screen shot of one that I used with the Thunder Road song.

The visualizer video swirls and bursts as the song plays, and it looks like it is reacting to the song, although it is not. You can vary the speed as necessary.

You probably can find what you are looking for by typing Visualizer into the Googe search box. Once you download a visualizer as a movie file you can insert it into your movie project with Picture in Picture to overlay it across the bottom of your clip.
