I still can't see the import tab under photos, it does not show

I still can't see the import tab under photos, it does not show, where do I find it. Even if I unplug the SD card reader and plug in again, it does not show any way to import pictures to my Ipad

iPad, iPadOS 14

Tell me more about the SD card you are using. What is the memory capacity? What is the speed rating of the card? This connector only supports the UHS-I speed class and not any higher speed. Look for a U with the number 1 inside of it on the card. If it’s a UHS-II or UHS-III card, that’s the problem. If the iPad can successfully read the SD card, then the Import tab automatically appears. Also, what iPad do you have and what version of iPadOS is installed?

Try these steps.

  1. Close the Photos app on the iPad, then power off the iPad. Allow enough time for it to completely shut down.
  2. Power up the iPad without the card reader plugged in.
  3. Plug in the card reader without the SD card, then insert the card.
  4. Open the Photos app if it didn’t already open automatically.

Did that help?

More questions:

  • Have you tried using the card reader to import photos from a different SD card to see if the first card itself might be bad?
  • Do you have another mobile device with a Lightning port that you could try using with the card reader?
  • How did you put the photos on the SD card? Where did the original photos come from?
  • Can you insert the SD card into another device to verify that it has photos on it and that they are readable?

I may think of something else later.

aarh, the SD card is an high speed card for a big Canon camera, so that is maybe the problem. I'll buy a new card with the specification you mentioned.

The SD card works fine, as I transferred all pictures from my laptop to the card. (all pictures were imported onto my laptop from a old Samsung phone, and they all show nicely on my laptop)

So I think it is because of the higher speed on the SD card.

Thank you very much!

Kind Regards

Ronny

If I'm understanding your question, the limit is the 32GB. It's really hard to say how many photos it might hold, because that is affected by the resolution of each photo. Higher resolution means larger file size, so fewer photos will take up more space faster. I never asked previously if you have a computer that will read an SD card? It would be really easy to upload the photos from the card onto a computer, even if it's a laptop, then transfer the photos to your iPad from the computer.
