Pairing iWatch 6 to iPhone11 version 14.4.2

I received a used iWatch 6 as a gift and want to pair it with my iPhone 11, but it tells me in need to update my iPhone IOS. But my iPhone tells me I'm on the latest version 14.4.2 so I am unable to pair my watch to my phone. What is the solution?

The watch was unpaired from the other iphone, but perhaps not removed from the sellers icloud account. We'll try that. Thanks.
