Why my songs are truncated in Music ?

Hello,

This is the second time this has happened to me and I have to spend hours rebuilding my Music library: During a last import of MP3 songs in my library, I realized that all the last imported songs were cut off at 3mn 13 sec. Apple Music automatically moves to the next song when playing. I tried everything, i.e. deleting the offending songs from my library, re-importing them but without success. The worst is that from the moment when an album suffers this inconvenience, all the albums imported afterwards suffer the same fate.

I tried to convert the MP3 files to M4A directly in Music and I realized that all the songs longer than 3 mn 13 sec had the same length, that is to say 3mn 13 sec !

I called the Apple support which did not know how to advise me on this problem and I think that it is the container "Music Library" which corrupts after a certain time. Only I don't know how to fix it without having to reimport my whole library piece by piece.

I should mention that all the truncated songs in Apple Music are not truncated when I listen to them with the previewer or VLC or QuickTime.

Another way to get around this problem is to re-encode these songs in MP4 with a free software like MediaHuman Audio Converter but it is very tedious.

I would be glad if we could find a solution to this problem.

Finally, I have 9000 songs in my Apple Music and I'm using MacOS Big Sur 11.2.3 with a MacBook Pro 15' 2016

Thank you!

Hello MoonJ. and thanks a lot for your reply !

I am glad you are interested in my problem.

Here are my answers to your questions:

1. This problem started 5 months ago when I imported some songs I bought online from Amazon (2). I don't remember what version of the OS I had at that time but I always did the updates automatically.

Since the import of this album, all the albums I imported afterwards were truncated.

3. So I called Apple support. They asked me to do a lot of usual things like restarting the computer, combining different keys during the restart and nothing helped. They finally told me that I had to create a new library and re-import all the songs one by one.

I would also like to say that I copied the offending album into iTunes on my old 2012 27" iMac and it works perfectly from start to finish.

The problem reappeared recently on Music with another downloaded album. I also put it on my old iMac and it works perfectly.

I think it's a database corruption issue but I don't know how to fix it.

For the moment I completely rebuilt my database and the problem has gone. I will publish another thread if it appears and I will keep all the proofs of the problem.

Best regards,

Sébastien

Hey there sébastien81,

Let's team up to get your music playing correctly within Music, just like it is in those other two apps.

To start narrowing down some possible causes, please provide us the following:

  1. When did this first start?
  2. From where are you obtaining your music? For example: purchased from the iTunes Store, CDs, purchased on another website, etc.
  3. You mentioned already contacting Apple Support, but didn't provide many details about that. Which steps did they have you try, and what were the next steps they provided?
  4. We see you have the latest macOS 11.2.3 version installed, but have you already tried a restart since this issue first began within Music? If not, check out the section 'Restart' here: Log out, sleep, wake, restart, or shut down your Mac

We look forward to hearing back from you. Take care!
