How do I change name spellings that are incorrect when I speak into my phone

When I speak names into my phone to send a text they are spelled incorrectly. How do I change it so predictive text will match the actual spelling of the name?

Hello, LOJC. Thank you for posting your question to the Apple Support Communities. We’re happy to assist you with the Dictation features of your iPhone.

From what we gather, when you use Dictation to add names to a text message, the names are spelled incorrectly. Something like this could be caused for several reasons and we’re happy to help you research any possible solutions.

To get started, we’d like to be sure that you have the following Apple Support article that explains how to use the Dictation features of your device:

If you are noticing the same issue when you type these names instead, it may be helpful to add these names as text replacements. With text replacements, entered words are automatically replaced with the text that you save. The following Apple Support article explains how you can set up text replacements on your iPhone:

How to use Auto-Correction and predictive text on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If these names are saved as contacts on your device, it may also help to add phonetic names and pronunciation for each contact. You can add this information using the Contacts app. Go to this article to find out how:

We hope these tips help to improve your dictation experience on the iPhone. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Cheers!
