Itunes for imovie

I am making an imovie and want to add some songs too it. I tried to download songs from Apple music but they were protected but it says Itunes should work for imovie. Not sure what the difference is or how to do it?

All Apple Music songs are digital rights management protected and cannot be used in iMovie. Additionally, Apple Music is a streaming service and thus its music cannot be used in an application like iMovie.

iTunes songs after year 2009 are generally DRM free. So you can use them in an iMovie project. You should be able to navigate to iTunes from the Music or iTunes item in the media sidebar of an iMovie project. Or, you can open your iTunes library and drag the song into iMovie, or to your desktop and then into iMovie.
