Throw it away. It's useless. And, really, it can't be used in any way that can affect you. In fact, may carriers don't even allow them to be re-used. But, cutting it in half is fine.

Ask your provider but generally I cut them on half and throw away if no longer active

If you want to keep for a new phone keep it safe and don’t lose it if not contact you carrier provider upon cancellation bend it or destroy it.
