MBP: cannot turn off bluetooth

Check ~/Library/Preferences for a *Magic Trackpad and bluetooth plist* file, trash them, repair permissions, restart your computer and empty the trash.

Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run _*Repair Disk*_ from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
Select *Disk Utility.*

Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click *First Aid.*
Click _*Repair Disk.*_
Restart your computer when done.

From the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar choose 'Open Bluetooth Preferences'; select the Magic Trackpad and click the '-' sign at the bottom of the list - see whether that works.

Have you actually paired the trackpad with the other Mac? - once you do that it is no longer connected to the original Mac (though of course this may not prevent the behaviour you're getting).

Hi, I'm having the same problem as well. Tried restarting, taking out the battery and then trying again but to no avail. Is there other method other than repairing the disk?

I had the same problem. I just managed to turn off bluetooth today however (hooray!). I'm not quite sure, but I think what solved the problem was plugging in an external wired usb mouse, before trying to turn off bluetooth. Hope that will work for you too!

Ok, I've just confirmed that this was in fact what solved the problem. Plug in a usb mouse and you should be able to turn off bluetooth.

I have tried what Philip did and it works! Thanks! Was really going to go out to get a trackpad but does this mean I have to do this every time I switched on my bluetooth? :/

Unfortunately I think you have to do it every time. I consider this a bug in the software, so hopefully it will be fixed in an update.

I can confirm I have the very same bug. I have Apple's Magic Mouse, and the Bluetooth Keyboard. I can't turn off Bluetooth sometimes, and it's quite annoying. Today my Magic Mouse ran out of batteries. I put in another fresh pair, and it wouldn't connect. Tried to turn bluetooth off/on, without success. I do hope this bug will be fixed in an update.

Thanx for the Solution. I was sitting in front of my MacBook for a good 2hrs plus trying to turn off the bluetooth. Apparently this bug or error is not jsut isolated to the Trackpad. I got the error message after I paired my bluetooth headset with my MacBook. Hope Apple sends out an update to repair. Thanks again.
