Is ram backwards compatible?

I know that this question has been asked multiple times, but I couldn't find a clear answer. I have an early 2008 mac pro, and I found some ram for a 2010 mac pro. I wasn't sure if it would work in my machine. I have read that it is backwards compatible, but I wanted to be sure. The 2010 specs are

PC3-8500 DDR3 ECC

1066MHz

For my model (2008)

PC6400 DDR2 ECC

800MHz

Thanks

Mac Pro, OS X 10.11

I checked a few other reputable RAM manufacturers:

PNY - no way to even check to see if they have the correct type

Crucial - no longer have it

Kingston - out of stock, all sizes, highly unlikely to ever restock

RAM is RAM. There isn't such a thing as PC RAM vs. Mac RAM. What matters is having the correct type.

I had both a 2008 and 2010 Mac Pro. The RAM is not interchangeable. And as Grant has already warned of, the RAM for a 2008 Mac Pro must have the proper heat sinks right on the RAM sticks.
