Tracks Grey Out and Mute (it's not the mute function)

In Logic, I record a midi track and it instantly greys out when I stop recording. it's not the mute button/function. It just doesn't play.

And the midi notes do not appear in the Piano roll, though they appear in the greyed out track in the tracking window, whatever it's called.

If I drag the midi track to a new midi track I have just created, it's not grayed out and works fine. HOWEVER, the midi notes still do not appear in the piano roll.

Hi there,

You are actually creating TAKE FOLDERS. Do you know how these work?

To better serve you...are you new to Logic Pro?

This should help:

Hope this helps and solves your query,

I think you may have the "Create Tracks and Mute" feature on.

If your REGIONS look like this (greyed out with a small colored dot), it means that the region is muted but not the track. If you click on the region os it is in "key focus" then you simply hit the key command ctrl+m and that should get you up and running.

Hope this helps and solves your query,

I also think you may have some automation in the track. Can you check for me?

I am particularly looking for MUTE automation. Please toggle through automation parameters to see if anything is muting your tracks.

Also, can you go select READ automation instead of LATCH?

If we can try this on a brand new session that would be great.

Hope this helps and solves your query,

Youtube links are allowed but I guess not personal links. I do think the file itself is corrupt and that if you start with a fresh file and make sure the READ mode is on then you should have no issues. There is some aberrant behavior going on here. I have read lots of issues with Big Sur users. I do hope this gets sorted.

Here is another Logic Pro video that you can use as a resource:

I thought of something that may be affecting playback as well. It is a long shot but tell me if you see this DIVIDER COLUMN in your session: Is it pointed to the RIGHT such as the illustration below or to the left? Do you see it by chance?

I wonder if Live Loops has taken "Playback Priority". Let me know. Also, please take a screen shot of your screen after you have hit the key command OPTION+b. Will greatly help me.

Hope this helps,

I"m aware that I'm recording take folders but as far as I knew it doesn't create a take folder unless I rerecord over something. so? if it's a one-take take folder, the only take would be the active take and would not be greyed out, no? Plus, would no midi appear in the piano roll while still appearing if I click on Score (forgot that part)?

And if being selected for take folders had the greying-out effect on a track, why would it not have the same effect on a different track that I created?

If you've got this right, thank you. Guess I don't understand take folders as well as I thought I did.

Yes, got the Midi track back visually. Thanks.

On brand new sessions there are no issues. That said, I can't confirm this but I feel like the problem reoccurs after a while in the new document...

These are documents I create every day (I do daily live piano streams) by saving the prior day's file under a new name, so whatever's going on is getting passed on, it seems.
