logic pro sounds different after bounce

Hey All,

I am having what seems to be a fairly common problem, but I have not seen a “one size fits all” solution. I am importing a number of sound samples (nature sound clips- some of which are 16bit and others are 24bit) into a session, adjust volume levels, panning in 5.1 surround, slight eq and reverb tweaking, and bouncing. After bouncing, the track sounds very different as if the levels I had set were adjusted during bounce.

when I bounce, send as PCM, 24bit, 44.1kHz, .wav. I bounce in 5.1 and I do NOT normalize.

I have tried bouncing in real time and offline and no difference was detected.

called Apple support and the my directed me here, so I am hoping someone out there has an answer. Thanks in advance.

Maybe we should try a little bit of elimination as to where the issue is taking place.

As an experiment, why don't you make a duplicate of your project and make all the channels stereo and do a rough stereo mix.

Bounce this out and see if you get the same issue. This will tell us if it's something specific to the surround or if it's a more general issue and actually has nothing at all to do with the surround aspect.

Ok great. As I said, this is not my specialty but I do want to point this out. I do think it can help you.

Let's wait to see what others say. Cheers!

Hope this helps,

Okey dokey, that tells us that there's nothing wrong globally with output settings and is specific to surround.

It seems as if the 5.1 isn't being folded down to stereo properly. I'll have a look at settings/controls to see if there are various ways Logic can be told to interpret and output 5.1 mixes. Like Eddie, this isn't my forte but maybe we can chip awway at the issue and narrow it down to a solution.
