I bought an iPhone 8 for my teenager
and now I can't figure out when it was. I have put in the Serial number into the Apple page but it comes up unknown. I bought it either in the UK or the US. Where can I find this information?

You want the ones that start with an M, not the one that starts with an A.
The model number should look like this: MY2J2LL/A
The only place to find this information is in the purchase receipt. If you no longer have it, you will need to contact the store you bought it from.
You can determine the country of purchase by the Model number in Settings->General->About->Model
If it has an LL before the / (slash) it was brought in the U.S.
If it has ZO before the / , it was bought in the U.K.
That means it's an Irish iPhone. As in the Republic of Ireland, which is not considered part of the U.K. Though the B is also used for U.K models some times.

I checked both my phones and neither have that Model number distinction.
