Previously my App Store app would show on the updated page preloaded apps to be updated up top and the others below.
now when I go in I only see apps to be updated. Do apps that have been updated only show for a time and disappear or is this a real issue?

You mean apps like Safari, Garage Band, iMovie?
I don't see them separately anymore either. They are downloaded with macOS unless there's a bug.
