I cannot delete apps on my iphone6 anymore. I hold down the app I want to delete & it shakes but the little x in top left hand corner is missing. I cannot find anything in my settings that would fix this problem.

Make sure you are not restricted.
Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > iTunes and App Store Purchases > Deleting Apps: set to Allow
