How do I get old messages from my old phone?

My iPhone 7 screen has gone. I no longer use it but I had text messages on there. How do I retrieve my old messages?

Unless you house your messages in iCloud, they are saved on your iPhone backup.

Restore that backup to your replacement iPhone to retrieve the messages (and other data) that were present when the backup was created.
