Bought iphone 12pro max a month ago. This morning whilst reading news on the phone. It became hot. First I moticed it became slow then it was heating up. I had to remove the cover and switched off untill it cooled down. Noticed heating was coming from near camera
The cellular radios are located there, and you were likely using a lot of cellular bandwidth and/or were in an area with poor signal, requiring the radios to be turned up to higher power levels.
Normal for the device to get warm during a strain on it. Game play is the worst but switching cellular to Wi-Fi or bouncing between towers also cause a load.
Could be lot of cellular band but will observe
