Remove encryption on local backup ?

I backed up locally on my MacBook with an encryption before switching to a new phone, however, my new phone has lower storage than my old one hence i can't recover it as how one usually would. I just would like to have access to my contacts so i bought a software to help me recover only selected parts of the backup. The problem is Wondershare Dr Fone can't recover data from an encrypted backup. Does anyone have any idea how to decrypt an encrypted backup that is already there?

Thanks in advance!

Hello sofiyah209,

It sounds like you have an encrypted backup that is larger than the storage on your new phone, and you want to get your contacts.

Here are some resources that might help:

While we don't have any information on decrypting your backup or using third-party software, to learn more about encrypted backups, review About encrypted backups on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

As often times contacts are saved to accounts, ensure you are logged into all email accounts on your new phone and have Contacts turned on, Use other contact accounts on iPhone.

If you have your original phone and the contacts are not connected to an account, you can use a computer to sync these contacts from one device to the other, Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod using your computer.

Hope this information helps.

Have a good day.
