series 1 blinking apple

I have an old Watch Series 1 that I haven't worn in about a year. I got a newer one and then misplaced it. We found it during a move last week. My wife has been on the fence about wanting an Apple Watch and thought she'd try this one to see if she actually liked it.

Obviously, after a year the battery is completely drained. I put it on the same Apple charging cable hooked up to my iMac that I use for my current watch and let it sit overnight. In the morning it still hasn't charged and it is only blinking the Apple logo. I've tried force reset and even holding them for over 30 seconds but that doesn't do anything.

Are there any other solutions other than sending it to Apple? The service fees look to be enough to buy a new SE.

Thanks

See the 'Store it half-charged when you store it long term.' section in:

Batteries - Maximizing Performance - Apple

"If you store a device when its battery is fully discharged, the battery could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding a charge."
