Does exporting my apple music library to xml file enable me to import it if I decide to re-subscribe?

Going to try spotify for a bit. I don't want to lose my apple music library forever. Before cancelling, I exported my library to xml from itunes. Can I use that to restore it to its current condition if I decide to re-subscribe?

Hello maq69,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! We understand you have some questions about your Apple Music subscription. We are happy to provide some guidance.

If you cancel your Apple Music subscription and re subscribe, you would need to re-download your music and playlists. There isn't a way to retain that information if the subscription gets canceled.

Best Regards.

Brian,

Thanks for your response. Just so I'm clear, the files created by selecting:

file>library>export playlist OR export library

are not usable to recreate my library upon re-subscribing? In other words, the only way to recover my music is to download songs and albums individually, and add them to playlists manually?

Let me know if there is any faster way as I have 20,000 songs in my library.
