Macbook 13' issue with connecting to WPA2 enterprise wifi

So this is going to be a long story. I am currently on my institution's wifi network (WPA2 Enterprise) , and it always has worked fine for me on my 2020 13' Macbook Pro, since I installed the university's configuration assistant that imported a profile for it. This morning, I was disconnected from the wifi and could not connect, so I rebooted my computer and it worked fine. However, a while later, I got disconnected again, and try as I may I could not reconnect to it. A box saying "password invalid" kept popping up, even though obviously nothing changed with my account so the password could not be incorrect (my phone connected fine to it). Just to be safe, I changed my password and then used the new password, to no avail (my phone worked fine with the new password too).

(apologies for lack of proper screenshot, I was taking photos and emailing on my phone for assistance since wifi was down on my laptop)

A curious phenomenon was that I could momentarily use my internet after this box pops up, I was even able to load a few google searches before it forcibly disconnected me from the wifi. During this time, the network tab often said I had a self-assigned IP address before changing to disconnected again.

After entering my credentials, this box disappears and then it loads for a while before showing up again.

After a while of waiting, the previous box disappeared on its own, only to be replaced by this one (can someone tell me what the difference is between them?). It only lasted for a few moments, before I could enter my credentials it disappeared, and I was successfully connected to the network.

Although I am able to use the internet without issue now, some bugs still remain. This keeps authenticating

and my wifi icon is permanently stuck in the "connecting" mode

where the wavy thing keeps moving up and down, same as the animation that lasts a few seconds when you're connecting to a new wifi network. I also notice my internet seems to be slower than normal. Does anyone have solution to this strange issue?

The IT department said they haven't done anything, and simply told me to change the password to one without special characters since there could be some bugs there. However, this morning when I woke up the wifi was disconnected again, and I had to reboot in safe mode and delete all previous information and reconnect. Even now, the wifi icon is still stuck on the "connecting" icon, and in network preferences the 802.1x thing says it is authenticating (I believe it should say connected normally). I am able to use the internet though.

Worth a try, but the IT department should also check the access point logs as well. I know we sometimes have to reboot access points from time to time because users can no longer connect to the access point.

Are you able to connect to a different access point elsewhere at the institution or do you have the same issue? If you can connect properly to a different access point, then it confirms an issue with that one access point. If you have the same issue connecting to different access points, then either the laptop has the problem or the institution has an authentication issue of some sort related to your account which only they can resolve for you.

Does the same thing happen in Safe Mode?

Is your OS and the university's configuration all completely up to date?

Can you connect the laptop to other WiFi networks? If so, then the university will need to assist you in resolving this issue as it is likely some odd issue between your laptop, account, and/or their network infrastructure.
