Adapt Mag2 charged to Macbook Pro M1

Is there an adaptor that will let me use my Mag2 charger from my old Macbook Pro on my new MacBook Pro (M1 chip)?

MacBook Pro (2020 and later)

You seem to be missing a really Big Idea here. Charging your USB-C MacBook Pro requires MUCH more than just getting the connectors to mate.

Your USB-C computer requires a smart power adapter that features USB-C Power delivery, a USB-based protocol that allows the smart computer and the smart power adapter to negotiate based on the Voltages and Currents available and agree to a Voltage supplied.

Although the MagSafe adapter is the predecessor to that, it does not have the required sophistication. IF (and that's a pretty big IF) you could get it to supply ANYTHING, it would like be only the default 5 Volts. Your smart power adapter has to negotiate up to the 20 Volt level to actually charge your Mac.

Punchline: The MagSafe is not SMART enough to charge a USB-C Power Delivery MacBook Pro.

Hi MichaelGli2,

We see you have questions about adapter compatibility between your old MacBook Pro and your new M1 Chip MacBook Pro.

There would not be an official adapter to bridge the MagSafe 2 adapter with the USB-C adapters used on the M1 Chip Macs. Your new Mac would come with a USB-C and USB-C power adapter to charge your new MacBook Pro.

Cheers!

Thanks, yes I got a charger with the computer, for practical reasons I want two and I don't want to pay the high price for a new charger when I have several that are OK bar the plug. Throwing them out really bugs me.

I found a couple of third party options on line but the information they provide is a bit ambiguous to me.
