See the following link > Move your content to a new Mac - Apple Support

Using,Migration Assistant when you first start up the new Mac (it’s offered in the startup) is usually the most straightforward.

Agreed—

The most trouble free way to move to a new machine, is using the Setup Assistant on the initial boot of a brand new machine— you have one shot here. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205749

After that Migration Assistant, move your content to a new Mac https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204350

Alternatives from an external boot clone— https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-10081

A cabled connection is much better/faster/trouble free.
