How to instal Mac OS from 2014 iMac onto external SSD

My 2014 iMac (Mojave 10.14.6) Retina 5K, 27-inch -- Its drive is slowing down. How do I install its operating system onto an external SSD?

Download the trial version of Carbon Copy Cloner and do just that, clone your internal Mojave drive to the external SSD that is large enough to receive it. This will make a bootable clone.
