mac mini

Can I use my present iMac as a monitor for the mini. I have keyboard and mouse.

iMac Line (2012 and Later)

He is wrong. Read where it say’s that you need a 2019 or earlier Mac to connect to the older supported iMac.

“You can connect any of these older iMac models to another Mac from 2019 or earlier for use as an external display”

Sorry but the new 2020 Mac Mini will not be able to use a supported iMac and you will need to get an external display.

Nope’ Target Display Mode was abandoned years ago and a new Mac Mini does not support using an older. supported iMac as a display.

I just chatted with apple and he said it would. I could also disconnect the "target display mode" and use the iMac as before??

You are correct. After closely reading the support pages, I am not sure why he told me it would work because clearly it will not. Thanks for your help, you saved me from making a costly mistake.
