Upgrading software

I have a MacBook Air Early 2014 that is running MacOS X Yosemite 10.10.5. I need to upgrade my operating system to something that is at least 10.11 in order to run a photo scanner that I recently purchased. Which version is the best and easiest for me to upgrade to without causing issues? I am not very tech savvy!
