NUMBERS -11 not calculating in MacBook AIR 2020

I had MAC PRO 2012 and had many spreadsheets. Bought a MacBook AIR 2020 ( M1 chip) which came with NUMBERS 11. Used REVERT feature and got one spreadsheet to work in MAC AIR.

But it has been pretty unreliable. Somehow the cells seems to be locked when I change or make new rows. But some of the old rows are seem to be working at the same time.

When I write an equation in a cell, it shows the equation but does not execute it. Some times it shows calculating indication, but does not come out of it.

I do have complicated SUMIFS and INDIRECT and LOGIC equations in the sheet. But it does not seem to be the problem. The sheet seems to have a problem switching to Calculate Mode.

Is there a separate Edit mode or Run/Update mode feature that comes on erratically in this ??

I am stuck.

or DO I need to retype the whole spreadsheet ( this one has about 12 sheets in it) in NUMBERS 11?

Impossible to say from the information given in your post. The behavior is not normal. Have you tried any of the usual troubleshooting steps?

  • Seeing if other Numbers documents open and behave as expected?
  • Signing in as another user on your Mac and seeing if your documents open there without trouble?
  • Restarting your Mac?
  • Uninstalling Numbers and redownloading it from the Mac App Store?

Ah, you didn’t mention stock portfolio. Do you have STOCK and STOCKH or CURRENCY functions in your document referencing non-US securities? If so, there recently have been many complaints. Yahoo! Finance data is not being retrieved properly. If that is the problem you are seeing then it would be good if you could file a bug report via Numbers > Provide Numbers Feedback in your menu.

Thanks SG. This is a stock portfolio that gets updated automatically at some point late evening each day. It does execute my equations, when I look at the spreadsheet in the morning. The file itself is in iCloud. I am trying to see whether there is a setup / configuration feature that I am not aware of. I do not keep my laptop on when i sleep to minimize energy-

I can do the other things on your list - but i do not think that would resolve my problem with this stock template file. But I would try them too if needed.

Yes, It is true that NUMBERS does not retrieve data on a few stocks. ( OTC , non-us) I will file a bug report on that.

It is a so-so utility missing real time updates.

Anyway, I do have a problem that the equations are not calculated when I punch it in my spreadsheet.

So I am investigating it by adding a separate table repeating the same equations and going to test it with market data.

If I find the reason, I will share it here.
