Airpods disconnect from Phone and switch to Apple watch when the watch gets a notification.

When I am listening music on my iPhone using my AirPods, every time I receive a notification on my Apple Watch the music stops because the AirPods automatically connects to the Watch. And I have to manually connect them again on my iPhone! Is there a way I could stop my AirPods connecting to my Apple Watch automatically? I want the airpods to stay connected to my iphone when apple watch gets a notification. This has been happening for a month.

I’m having a similar issue. Just got the watch and ever since, if I have my AirPods (Gen 2) connected to phone, listening to music or simply still in my ears after a previous call — when a phone call comes in it buzzes on watch and phone rings, but when I answer the call on phone , audio disappears. Ive set phone’s Bluetooth to “When Last Connected to This iPhone” per instructions, but the only way I can regain audio is to remove AirPods and then reinsert. Apparently people can hear me telling them to wait because I can’t connect, but I can’t hear anything til I reset pods or just call them back. It feels like it’s switching to the watch, but I’m not totally sure. I can only hear caller very faintly. Very odd and very frustrating behavior. Not sure if this is an iOS update issue or a watch issue since both are new. Is there a workaround?
