Autolock feature stops Apps from working

I have a phone app that updates with data gotten from a house device via blue tooth. When autolock locks my screen, the app stops working. The app updates again when I manually unlock the screen. Is there a way to keep the auto-lock feature (for a number of good reasons) and keep the app working? I was surprised by this as the phone is not shut off.

Hi there, netmouser! Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

After reviewing your post, it sounds like you are looking to keep your auto-lock disabled on your iPhone. We definitely understand that if your app is not able to work with it as you wish, that can be a concern and we'd love to help. We do want to let you know that this will affect your battery consumption, if the iPhone stays on all the time. That said, you can disable this feature by going to Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock and selecting ‘Never’.

Please let us know if you have follow-up questions about this issue. Have a great day!

We are happy we could at least clarify this issue for you a bit further, netmouser. While Bluetooth is not disabled when your iPhone is in idle mode, the apps may not continue to run and stay connected, depending on how they were coded to perform.

We welcome all thoughts, comments and suggestions, on your iPhone or any other Apple products and services. If you would like to, you may certainly send us feedback on this here: http://apple.co/Feedback

Thanks 1ssmith - I guess I was hoping to have my cake and eat it, too. Keep the phone with screen turned off and locked (and the phone is not turned off) and let bluetooth keep updating my app (that is still open). Sounds like that cannot be done. Someone said Apple does not allow bluetooth to run in the background, and I think that is the problem. Thanks.
