CUT and PASTE??

PROBLEM
Anyone here know a way to cut and paste in Mac . This feature does not seem possible without a Software installed, but if so what is a software that is free and well performed that is highly recommend for this.

EXPERIENCE
The only way I did it only by Mac was dragging it but that becomes a hassle when it comes to putting it in a folder in a completely different location and I also installed a software that wasn't free only allowing me to cut one item at a time which sucked :S.

Please help, and Thank you for Everyones Support who choose to participate in this 😀

There is no cut-and-paste for files in an Apple OS (never has been, and I doubt ever will be), since this operation is inconsistent with the use of cut-and-paste everywhere else. There are some scripts out there that can perform something similar, but I am not aware of a free application to accomplish this. Most people just use two Finder windows if there are lots of files to move (there is also the spring-loaded windows thing).

Right now I need to move 400GB from one directory to another on my harddrive, and its gonna take 1-2 hour copying and deleting folders, but it would've taken 10 seconds with a cut command. I mean, Cmd + X works with text, so why not files and folders, things like this makes me wanna move back to Windows...

Please Apple, give us a Cut command!

You must have an absolutely enormous amount of very widely scattered files then.

Remember that drag and drop still works even from one volume to another. Just press and hold the Command key and it will move the file(s) instead of copying them. Thus negating the need to go back and delete.
things like this makes me wanna move back to Windows...

You still can
Please Apple, give us a Cut command!

This has been a perennial request to Apple which they have so far totally ignored.

If that is your reason to switch back to Windows that I hope you enjoy Windows with all of the other problems it brings. Bye.

Use copy instead of cut.

Apple will likely never implement a cut command for files because it can cause data loss. It is poor practice to do such a thing. Microsoft, who has enabled this in Windows, is perpetuating this bad practice for Windows users.

Suppose you cut a bunch of files and the power goes out before you can paste them. Files all gone. Don't do it. Copy, paste, delete the originals. Much safer.

That is quite a ridiculous claim. First, there are built-in file duplicators that keep real-time copies of all files cut, so it wouldn't be lost. When you don't paste, it simply stays where it was originally located. Alternatively, you could pull up the last state it was in, and the files would be there.

Windows users have been using the 'cut' function just fine for the last 15 years. Apple at some point, in knee-jerk fashion, decided this very handy feature shouldn't be in the product, probably in reaction to something Microsoft did with its OS. Now, like a spoiled child that didn't get it right, Apple has decided that "No! My way is still better!" even though it is a CLEARLY MORE INEFFICIENT METHOD to not have some sort of simple 'cut' functionality for files and folders.

Now, instead on my mac (which I love, btw...) I have to go open one folder... then I have drop what I am doing to go find another folder.... then I have to literally drag the items over from one folder to the other... it is inefficient.

I should be able to cut and drop... cut and drop... cut and drop... without the middle steps.
