Apple TV 3rd gen AirPlay to HomePod mini not working

Hi,

I have a 3rd generation Apple TV running 7.6.2 software (the latest available to update for this model), and I'm trying to AirPlay the audio to my HomePod mini, but it does not work.

When I go to Settings/AirPlay, in the Speakers section the HomePod mini appear with a lock sign, but I don't have any password or restriction on.

Is it possible to connect to AirPlay or my Apple TV is too old for it?

Thanks.

Apple TV 3, 8

Hi derojas,

We understand you have questions about being about to use AirPlay with your Apple TV (3rd generation) and the HomePod mini. We'd be happy to help get that cleared up.

This page has the requirements on being able to AirPlay audio: AirPlay system requirements

As the page will note, to AirPlay audio from an Apple TV it will need to be the Apple TV HD (also known as the 4th generation) or the Apple TV 4K.

We hope that helps to clarify things.

Take care.
