Enter Mac Password

My Settings on my iPhone is demanding that I enter the password to my iMac desktop computer. I'm not sure why I would need to do that in the first place...but, even then, after I enter in the password, my iPhone tells me that what I have entered is incorrect...and it isn't. I entered it into the iPhone very carefully several times.

Why does my iPhone need me to do this? ...and why are they wrong about my password?

iPhone SE, iOS 14

Hello songejapan,

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities. We understand that the Settings app on your iPhone is prompting you to enter your iMac user account password, but it isn't being accepted. Are you being asked to approve the device in the Apple ID settings? If so, this is to approve the device to be able to sync end-to-end encrypted data. If it isn't accepting your passcode, you can choose to reset this data to allow it to start syncing and saving again. More details about the data that is reset can be found under "End-to-end encrypted data" here: iCloud security overview

If you're seeing something else, let us know more details. The more you share the better.

Take care.

On my iPhone...

Settings / Update Apple ID Settings / Apple ID Password

It says "enter the password for [my Apple ID]" - I enter it and press "Sign In"

Enter iPhone Passcode

I enter it

Enter Mac Password - "Enter the password you use to unlock [my iMac]"

I enter it

Incorrect Password - "The password for [my iMac] was entered incorrectly too many times. You can approve this device using another device or reset your end-to-end encrypted data."

Reset End-to-End Encrypted Data?

I click on "Reset Encrypted Data."

That seemed to take care of it...but throughout all of this, I had no idea what I was doing.

So, thank you. I guess.
