Can tvOS access a NAS?
Hello, as the title suggest, I was wondering if there is a way for an AppleTV to access a NAS and stream content from it. Seems like a basic feature for a high end streaming box.

VLC for Apple TV is able to browse network drives (SMB or FTP or even Plex).
All other network sharing solutions (that I know of) will require a client on Apple TV and and a piece of software on the server side (essentially creating a library of sorts).

I have no problems accessing media from my NAS synology brand using their app from app store and the vlc app from app store
I use one of these in a RAID 5 configuration, I got the 48TB model. Simply setup Home Sharing on your Mac and the Apple TV and you are in business.
A NAS is as simple as it gets. It’s just a file manager on the network. HomeSharing has a whole application that your media has to be setup and categorized in. I’d just like it if tvOS could do something as simple as view files on my network.
I know about HomeSharing. HomeSharing isn’t really a NAS though, you’re just accessing an iTunes library remotely from another computer that’s already powered on. Thanks though.
Yes and it is a much more elegant solution as it is simple. Why add the additional complexity of a NAS, it simply doesn't make sense.
