closing apps to improve memory

I get notice that the computer is low on memory and I need to close some applications . How is this done?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

The easiest way I find is to right click on a running app in the Dock and select Quit.


If you want to start learning the Activity Monitor it will report which apps are taking up a lot of memory and then you'll learn which ones to keep an eye on and quit if necessary. Some web browsers are particularly greedy.
