Adobe Acrobat DC Pro cannot open all pdf files because many are greyed out

When using File, open, most pdf files cannot be opened because they are greyed out. What can I change so all pdf files can be opened. (iMac and Adobe have been updated to most recent versions.)

I'd suggest contacting Adobe for support or visiting an Acrobat DC Pro forum.
