My "Others" file on my MacBook Pro is showing 393.75GB and I hardly have any files on my computer?

How do I find out what the 393.46 GB in other is? i have deleted way over 40GB from hard drive to make room. While I have deleted 40GB the "other" has only decreased by 7GB???? I am running Catalina 10.15.17

Storage space problem on MAC and not finding OTHER where bulk of the problem is. The space taken by OTHER is 388GB of the 500GB storage on my Mac. I have followed the instructions to locate the OTHER which took me to LIBRARY but the files I see there do not take more than 30GB. How do I reduce the size of "other" on a MacBook Air 2012 that is running Catalina? How do I reduce the size of the "other" files? It is taking up 60 gigs of space on my MacBook Air.
