Always open to Home Screen

How can I have the iPhone always open to the Home Screen (and not the last app used)? I am trying to teach my mom how to use her iPhone. It is very confusing to her to have her phone open to (from her perspective) random places. Please don't tell me to close the app to solve this problem. My mom is older and is struggling with the iPhone in general. It would just be so much easier for her if her iPhone opened to the same place every time. I cannot find a setting that does this.

Thank you.

iPhone 7, iOS 14

Hello cjcandboys.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you want your iPhone to open directly to the Home Screen after unlocking it. You don't want it to open to the last app that was used. If this is the case, we'd like to share some information with you.

Currently, there is no built-in setting/feature that allows you to unlock your device to the Home Screen, unless it was already on the Home Screen prior to your device locking. If the iPhone unlocks to the last app being used, you'll need to need to swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen (on an iPhone with Face ID) or press the Home button (on an iPhone with a Home button) to get to your Home Screen.

We do recommend that you leave feedback for Apple on things they can change below:
