Just to add…

No 32bit software will run in Catalina. Run Go64 to see what 32bit software you have installed.

Any software you wish to test in Catalina will have to be installed on the Catalina partition.

Not sure how important tis is to you but starting with Catalina Time Machine no longer works with mail as before. You cannot go back in time to retrieve messages. You would need to use some other method if you need to find a lost email.

FWIW, I found the Dave Taylor article. That would have applied to Audacity 2.*. Audacity 3.0.2.0 works fine with the internal mic on Big Sur so I imagine it works fine with Catalina.

Assuming you installed Catalina correctly onto the partition, you have to boot/restart and hold the option key to select it.
