Dictation and audio playback are intermittent
A maddening issue I've been dealing with for awhile: my iPhone's speech-to-text and audio playback are either defaulting to off, or surreptitiously routing the output somewhere else. I've installed Cylance on my phone, and it sees no untrusted profiles or other signs of compromise. Alarms, timers, and phone conversation work consistently. But audio playback from the Music app or video playing through any browser or social media/messenger app defaults to off, and doesn't work until I toggle mute, change volume, or something else. I'm trying to screen record a song for a friend, and playback is mute. Sound starts when I tap the recording icon, and it asks me if I want to stop recording or cancel. When the prompt comes up, audio begins. Hit cancel, and the audio is gone again.
Also, I am having this problem with dictation. When I hit the microphone in Notes, Facebook, Messenger, Zoom, Telegram, or any browser submission box, the microphone LED turns orange, and the soundwaves spike as I talk. But there is no text output. The phone knows there's audio, but seems to be confused as to what to do with it. I have experienced this issue on an iPhone 11 Pro 256 GB, and iPhone 12 Pro 256 GB after I upgraded. It would be nice if this issue could be squashed, without having to do a new restore and start from scratch. Has anyone encountered this anomaly, and does anyone have any idea how to fix it?
