The diagram in this article about the tech spec of the Thunderbolt 3 Pro Cable shows the profile of the connector housing (pictured) as being a rounded rectangle. Is that right?
I ask because some peripherals recess the Thunderbolt 3 socket (i.e. Universal Audio Apollo x desktop interfaces – pictured) and a rectangular housing will not fit!

That is a thunderbolt port on the UAA, but it looks like there is the busted off connector from another cable stuck inside of it.
Looks as though you are right about the sheared off connector! It is not my Apollo X4 device, but rather a cropped image from the Internet. Still, it shows the problem clearly and why I ask my question re. the Thunderbolt 3 Pro cable connector profile. It says SOLVED against your reply, but my question about the profile is NOT solved.
The problem is not my computer. I have a 27" iMac 2020. It has two Thunderbolt 3 sockets.
I am asking about the profile of the connector housing on the Apple Thunderbolt 3 Pro cable. The diagram on their tech note (see below) for the cable shows it as being a rounded rectangle profile but I need it to be a “racetrack” oval profile. I think Apple’s diagram is WRONG, but I want to make sure before I order the cable. Do you see? Do you know the answer?

Exactly what make and model # is your Audio device.
If it is older, then it could be TB 2 instead of TB 3.

That is a Thunderbolt 3 interface.
If it is your Mac that is older with Mini DisplayPort/Thunderbolt 2, then you will need a newer Mac with TB 3.
