iMac airdrop doesn't work
on my iMac, the Airdrop window won't allow me to select anything, it doesn't recognize any nearby iPads or devices so I can drop files

Hi ramshackleacres,
Please go to the Apple Menu (top left) --> About This Mac, and let us know the Mac year and current macOS version.
Also, read: Use AirDrop on your Mac - Apple Support and How to use AirDrop on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support, also making sure AirDrop is turned on for the iOS/iPadOS device.
