This started maybe two days ago but I am in a group chat with some friends and we send voice messages all the time but recently only some of them have been working. For example two of the people in the group would send a voice message and on my phone it looks like the picture below and then they’d send more and it looks normal and I can hear it. I was wondering how if this is fixable and why it’s happening.

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today. It sounds like you aren't able to play all audio messages in a group text message
How long are you keeping the messages?
"The Messages app deletes audio messages after 2 minutes. To keep your audio messages longer, go to Settings > Messages. Scroll down and tap Expire under Audio Messages, then select After 2 Minutes or Never."
Is it only this message where it occurs? If so, have you tried leaving and returning to the group text?
Do you only notice this when you are performing a Tapback or is the audio message empty in the main body too.
Is you iOS fully updated? Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Have you restarted your iPhone?

Hi Michael,
I don’t usually keep voice messages. Yes I’ve only had this problem in this specific group but I’ll try leaving the group and see what happens. The audio message is empty in the main body as well. I have updated and restarted my phone but those two didn’t fix anything. Yesterday I was in the middle of typing and a voice message came through empty however after waiting in the chat for a few minutes it fixed itself and showed the full message. I’m not sure if that means anything but please let me know. Thanks for your help!
