Apple TV 4K not turning on Sony Bravia Smart TV

I've read about others having an issue with the Apple TV 4K not being able to turn on their Sony Bravia smart tvs. I've got a Sony XBR-65X850C and a few months ago added an Apple TV 4K. I followed the advice and got an expensive HDMI cable too. Right off the bat, there were issues with the TV starting up when I turned on the Apple TV. The TV would turn off right away, or would reboot the Android software, so it took almost two minutes to bring up any picture, or I would have to hold down the power button to cold reboot the tv because it seemed lifeless. Most people say it's an issue with the CEC, or BRAVIA Sync. My settings are to allow the TV to be turned on. The TV recognizes the Apple TV as a compatible device. Yet it keeps malfunctioning whenever it's turned on and I have to keep the Sony remote nearby.

My firmware is up to date. I don't really see any options except to be at Sony's mercy to try to fix this. What sucks is I have a Sony non-smart TV in my bedroom with a third generation Apple TV that works fine every time. Go figure.

Has anyone found a way to fix this?

The Apple TV box can send a CEC signal “One Touch Play”, but that’s all the influence external devices have for that functionality. It is up the the TV to react to signal appropriately.
