IPhone accidentally blocking phone numbers

This has happened twice now. One was a friend, the other was Apple Support itself. And no, I am not on "Do Not Disturb", nor is the phone set to "Silence Unknown Callers".

Sparks,

Thanks for the info. The (accidentally) blocked numbers do not ring on my phone, they go straight to voicemail. And they do appear as blocked numbers in Settings>Phone>Blocked Contacts, except that I didn't block them.

My IOS version is 14.4.2

Philips Scalia,

You're certainly welcome. We appreciate you following up with details, and clarifying the issue for us. Let's continue working together to sort this out.

Next, you'll want to update your iPhone to iOS 14.5 to see if that helps. If needed, learn more about updating your iPhone here:

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

After your iPhone is updated, try unblocking the phone numbers, and let us know if this happens again.

"To unblock a phone number, contact, or email address, swipe left over the entry, then tap Unblock." Have a look at the 'Manage your blocked phone numbers, contacts, and emails' section of the link we posted previously for more information.

Take care.

Hi there Philips Scalia,

Thanks for joining us in Apple Support Communities! We understand some phone numbers have been inadvertently blocked on your iPhone. We're glad you're here, and we'd like to learn more to see how we can help.

To start, what kind of behavior are you seeing on your iPhone exactly? For example, are incoming calls not ringing as expected, or are you seeing phone numbers listed in Settings > Phone > Blocked Contacts that you didn't block? Have a look at this link to learn more about blocking phone numbers on your iPhone:

Block phone numbers, contacts, and emails on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Send over these details, including which iOS version is listed in Settings > General > About, and we'll take a closer look from there.

Cheers.

Okay it's updated, so we'll see if it behaves. I had already unblocked the two mistaken blocks; who knows how many more unwanted blocks there are. The list of blocked numbers is a mile long because I block robocalls after receiving them. However, it is possible that some of these robocalls were made from legitimate numbers that were hijacked for the purpose. And possibly, that's how these "good" numbers became blocked.
