Is iPhone tracking history kept and available for viewing? If so how? In 'find my phone' for a family member us an example.

You can find your Location History if you have the feature enabled. Go to:
Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services -> System Services -> Significant Locations.
Sign in with your password.
You can NOT see previous locations in the Find My app.
This only applies to devices where the most recent location is activated.
