Will an unlocked iPhone 12 bought from the US work in Japan?

I have an unlocked iPhone 12 I bought here in the US that I plan to bring to Japan with me. Would there be any issues with Japanese SIM cards not working with US iPhones? I know there are some differences in functionalities between their Japanese counterparts so I worry about any time of regional restrictions.

If you bought an unlocked phone directly from an Apple Store or Apple online it will work in Japan. However, if you bought it from any other dealer it is not unlocked, even a sales person said it was.

If the phone ever needs repair it will have to be returned to the US.
