Why can't Homekit find my WeMo smart plugs?

This is a constant problem, and it's getting really really frustrating. Every few weeks, HomeKit loses it's connection with two WeMo "smart" plugs. I put smart in quotes for obvious reasons. These are supposedly Apple-approved devices that you would think, once set, would just work. They don't. I have connected to them with my iPhone and the HomePod Mini, Apple's worst product. Every few weeks, I get a "No Response" message in red text for each accessory in the Home app. My solution is to delete them from the Home app and re-add them. Problem is, HomeKit can't add them! WHY?!?!

Please somebody, help. The combination of the HomePod Mini, HomeKit, and WeMo 'smart' plugs is very very frustrating.

Hi racheals14

iOS 14.5: check

Bluetooth enabled: check

iCloud Keychang and Home enabled: check

All of the above were activated and have been activated for years. The problem isn't between Wemo and the plugs. It's between Home and HomePod Mini and the plugs. The WeMo app works fine with them. Why did Apple approve these devices without extensive testing? The problem is Apple's, not WeMo's.

Hello rwraysmith,

Thank you for taking the time to post your question to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're intermittently experiencing issues with your HomeKit accessory not responding within the Home app.

You mentioned setting them up using your iPhone. Let's start with ensuring the iPhone is up to date.

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

When this occurs, is Bluetooth enabled on the iPhone under Settings > Bluetooth?

We'd also recommend confirming that you have "iCloud Keychain" and "Home" enabled under Settings > [your name] > iCloud.

If you continue to experience issues after following the steps above, check with the manufacturer or their app to confirm that your accessories are up to date as well.
