Would the Apple TV work as a DVB T2 HEVC decoder?

Hello,

in a few months in Italy the digital signal will change to DVB T2 HEVC stardard and old TVs won't be able to work. I own a Panasonic Plasma (2012) and I am afraid it will not work. As I am considering to buy the Apple TV, I am wondering whether it would operate as a decoder with the new standard and it would enable my TV to receive digital free channels.

Thank you for your time and help.

Regards,

Fabio

  • The Apple TV box takes its input from the internet, through apps. That may or may not provide you with the same content options.
  • DVB-T2 is digital terrestrial reception (for HD), i.e. through an antenna. For ‘older’ TVs, pre-2017, you may need a TV tuner box in between the antenna and the TV. Apple TV box is not a tuner box.
  • There are ‘smart’ combinations possible, where the antenna signal is converted (HDHomeRun) to a stream on your home network, which the Apple TV box (Channels app or similar) can then view.
